Supporters Demand Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are urging that a person who breached a barricade and grabbed the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records showed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account includes videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more message on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, securing two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
