Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months after leading disrespectful chants aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his career.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
